TikTok Shop and Shopify: How to Sell via TikTok Live Shopping

TikTok Shop lets you sell products directly inside TikTok through shoppable videos, a product tab, and live shopping broadcasts. Here is how it works with Shopify and why Dutch merchants should pay attention.

TikTok Shop is a native shopping experience built directly into the TikTok app, allowing merchants to sell products through shoppable videos, a dedicated shop tab, and live shopping broadcasts without redirecting customers to an external website. For Shopify merchants in the Netherlands and across Europe, it represents one of the fastest-growing new sales channels available right now.

This guide covers what TikTok Shop is, how TikTok Live Shopping works, how it connects to your Shopify store, and what you need to get started.

What is TikTok Shop?

TikTok Shop is TikTok's integrated commerce platform. It allows sellers to list products, run promotions, and process payments entirely within the TikTok app. Customers can browse products, add them to a cart, and complete checkout without ever leaving TikTok.

There are three main ways products appear in TikTok Shop:

Shoppable videos. Product tags can be added to any regular TikTok video. Viewers tap the tag, see the product details, and buy directly.

The shop tab. A dedicated storefront within your TikTok profile where customers can browse your full product catalogue.

TikTok Live Shopping. During a live broadcast, you can pin products to the screen in real time. Viewers tap the product card and buy while watching, creating a direct connection between entertainment and purchase.

What is TikTok Live Shopping?

TikTok Live Shopping is the live commerce feature of TikTok Shop. During a live broadcast, the host (you, a team member, or a creator you partner with) pins products to the bottom of the screen. These appear as small cards that viewers can tap to open the product page and purchase without leaving the stream.

This format works particularly well for:

  • Product demonstrations and unboxings
  • Flash sales and limited-time offers with visible countdown timers
  • Q&A sessions where viewers ask about specific products
  • Creator collaborations where an influencer showcases your range

Live shopping is not new. It has driven hundreds of billions in revenue across Asian markets for years. TikTok is the platform most actively bringing this behaviour to European and North American audiences, and early movers are seeing strong results.

How TikTok Shop connects to Shopify

Shopify has an official TikTok channel integration. Once connected, you can sync your Shopify product catalogue directly to TikTok Shop, so your inventory, product titles, images, prices, and variants are automatically kept in line between both platforms.

The integration handles:

  • Product sync: Your Shopify catalogue syncs to TikTok Shop. Changes made in Shopify (price updates, new variants, stock levels) are reflected in TikTok automatically.
  • Order management: TikTok Shop orders flow back into your Shopify admin. You manage fulfilment, returns, and customer service from one place.
  • Pixel tracking: The TikTok Pixel connects TikTok ad performance to Shopify conversion data, helping you understand which content and campaigns are actually driving sales.

Setting up TikTok Shop for your Shopify store

The setup process involves a few steps:

  1. Create a TikTok for Business account and apply for TikTok Shop seller access in your region.
  2. Install the TikTok channel app from the Shopify App Store.
  3. Connect your accounts and authorise the product sync.
  4. Review product eligibility. TikTok Shop has category restrictions and requires products to meet certain standards (accurate descriptions, compliant imagery, correct pricing).
  5. Set up your shop tab and customise your TikTok storefront.
  6. Plan your first live. Even a 30-minute product walkthrough with three or four pinned items is enough to test the format.

Is TikTok Shop available in the Netherlands?

TikTok Shop availability has been expanding across Europe. The UK was the first European market, with broader European rollout following. If TikTok Shop is not yet available for sellers in your country, you can still prepare by connecting your Shopify store to TikTok Ads and TikTok's shoppable video features, which are available more widely and drive traffic to your existing Shopify checkout.

Check the current seller eligibility in your region directly through TikTok for Business, as availability updates regularly.

Why this matters for Dutch Shopify merchants

The Dutch e-commerce market is mature and competitive. Standing out on price or standard Google Shopping ads is harder than it was. TikTok reaches audiences who are not actively searching for products but can be converted through discovery, especially in categories like fashion, beauty, lifestyle, food, and home goods.

TikTok's algorithm also levels the playing field. A small brand with engaging content can reach hundreds of thousands of potential customers without a large advertising budget. For independent Dutch merchants competing against larger retailers, this is a real opportunity.

The brands that establish a TikTok Shop presence now, while adoption is still growing, will have a significant advantage over those who wait.
